Something You Can Trust

Uncertainty. Even the word makes me squirm.

I much prefer knowing what to expect—like how long it will take to get somewhere or if I’m about to have a visitor. When I’ve got the facts, I feel more relaxed and can breathe easier.

And then there are those times when tragedy hits, and there’s just no way to know what’s going to happen. This level of uncertainty can throw anyone for a loop, causing anxiety, fear, worry, anger, grief, you name it. It can be tempting to look outwardly for answers, reassurance, or even distractions, but that can sometimes make us feel even worse. At least that’s what I’ve experienced.

One thing that’s been helping me through these uncertain times is an exercise called “trusting your chair,” which I learned from my teacher Thea Elijah of Perennial Medicine. This simple yet powerful practice can help you feel much calmer and more grounded, making uncertainty a whole lot easier to navigate.

But don’t take my word for it. Give it a try and see what you notice. I’ll guide you through in the video below.

As always, please feel free to share your thoughts and experiences in the comments.

I’d love to hear from you.
